We headed to Rockwood one cool and slightly rainy Fall weekend because of family connections. It turned out to be a lovely day.
Rockwood is just east of Guelph. (From the 401 take Hwy 25 to Acton and then Hwy 7 west. The park's main entrance is at the west end of town.) It's a village just big enough to have a few restaurants and a used stuff store to poke around in after your walk.
The conservation area is officially closed Thanksgiving through April. To have a quieter experience avoid the busy summer months.
The pretty Eramosa River runs through the conservation area, and around it are hiking trails near limestone caves, ruins of an old mill, a cedar forest, a campground, cliffs, and on and on. It is not a huge area, but it is a beautiful and interesting area to discover. Take the time to have a good look around. We spent several pleasant hours doing a leisurely circuit.

In the warmer months you can camp, rent a canoe to explore the river, and swim . But off season it is a much more peaceful place to explore!
